Questions

What is a European size 38 in US?

For women's clothing, EU/German 38 is a US 6 (UK 10). As a French size, 38 corresponds to a German 36 — a US 4.

What is a European size 40 in US?

A women's EU/German 40 is a US 8 (UK 12, French 42, Italian 44).

Are German and French sizes the same?

No — French sizes run two higher than German/EU standard sizes: a German 36 is a French 38. Italian sizes run four higher (Italian 40).

Why does my size vary between brands?

There is no enforced international standard — brands cut differently (vanity sizing). Use body measurements and the brand's own chart for anything fitted.
