About the military time converter

Military time runs from 0000 to 2359, so every moment of the day has one unambiguous four-digit label — there is no AM/PM to mix up. That is why it is standard in the armed forces, healthcare, aviation, emergency services and shift scheduling. The rule is simple: from 1300 onward, subtract 1200 and add PM; before noon the digits match the 12-hour clock with AM. The two special cases are 0000 (12:00 AM, midnight) and 1200 (12:00 PM, noon). This converter applies those rules both ways, shows the current time in both formats, and keeps the full chart on the page for quick reference.

Questions

How do I convert military time to regular time?

For 1300 through 2359, subtract 1200 and add PM — so 1830 becomes 6:30 PM. Times from 0100 to 1159 read the same on both clocks with AM. The special cases: 0000 is 12:00 AM (midnight) and 1200 is 12:00 PM (noon).

Is midnight 0000 or 2400?

Both refer to the same moment. 0000 marks the start of a new day and 2400 the end of the previous one. Most schedules, and this converter, use 0000 for midnight.
